L&T Faces Roadblock on the Metro Rail project in Hyderabad

Q: Hey, I have heard recently that the L&T is still facing road blocks and is still having some problem regarding the alignment of the route? Any updates on this?

L&T facing a cost overrun of as much as Rs.3,000 crore on account of high interest cost and delays in execution. L&T has so far spent Rs.4,800 crore on the project, of which its equity contribution was Rs.1,500 crore.

Actually, the Chief Minister is pretty inclined on the realignment on the city as he wants the metro rail to pass form under ground near the heritage sites in the city, and also he really believes in Vaasthu, so that is why he wants the line realigned at some places.

The Corridor 3 was supposed to be the first one to be inaugurated and the schedule had been set two years back. With the launch being cancelled, the other two dates, for the Miyapur-SR Nagar stretch on Independence Day, and Mettuguda-Begumpet on November 14 are also doubtful. The entire project was to be completed in 2017.

The Nagole to Mettuguda line was supposed to start on the 2nd of march, but this was also not started. Many of the deadlines are being missed by the L&T this year, and even the route that was supposed to start by March 21 is not starting.

They are having difference in opinion actually. L&T claims to floow to the normal conditions of the National Fire Protection Association, but the state fire services department insists on the developer to stick to National Building Code norms.

Apart from not providing the required right of way in time for the smooth progress of metro rail works... violations by the developer or its sub-contractors and even seizing of the construction equipment had also happened during this project.

Government officials, who had forced the developer to stop work at contentious locations took several months to communicate the official decision on the proposed changes to the alignment. This is actually another reason for the delay.

Yeah, but that is not recent new. They are continuing with the project as of now. But they are still facing problems Many of the state Government departments are not ready to cooperate with the engineering team in L&T, The state Government departments have stopped working on this project frequent, which has led to the delay in the project.

Hai Ramakrishna, yes. Did you hear recently that the L&T wanted to stop and pull out of the project because they were having some issues with the state government regarding the alignment and the acqusition of the land in the city, and L&T was not happy with it, so that is why they want to pull out of the project.
