I think this is a realy wise move from the corporations side since water level in other reservoirs in the region like Aliyar, Amaravathi, Sholayar, Thirumurthi reservoirs has dipped considerably. So saving all the water that we can must be a big priority.

I'll tell you which area will be affected by this; The civic body supplies Siruvani water to about 30 wards in the core city areas including Gandhipuram, R S Puram and Ganapathy, while the rest of Coimbatore gets water from Pillur.

I woud totally understand if some of the people would be concernec, since last year, the city stared at a crisis situation as water level in Siruvani dipped to dead storage level due to fall in rain in the catchment areas.

Hey, corporation officials have said that there has not been any complaint from the residents of inadequate water. The civic body has also decided to continue providing new water connections, indicating that they don't see any shortage of water in the near future

Residents don't need to panic. The water position is better than the last two years. We just want them to use water judiciously till June when we may expect fresh rains. Copious rainfall during the monsoons in 2014, unlike the previous years, had kept the Siruvani dam brimming for more than 100 days continuously

Did you know that as on Tuesday, water level in Siruvani dam stands at 873.1 m as against the total capacity of 878.5 m. The position is much better than the position during the corresponding period in the previous year when water level was 869m.

Yes, There is no impending shortage of water. The storage in Siruvani dam is adequate to sail through the summer. But the supply has been restricted as a precautionary measure, according to an official from Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board

Well, even though water level in Siruvani dam, the main source of drinking water to the city, remains adequate to meet the summer requirement, the civic body has initiated the rationing as a precautionary measure. So you shouldn't start worrying yet.

Yes, your friend was correct. n preparation for summer, the city corporation will restrict supply of Siruvani water to once in four days instead of the present schedule of every other day. That's too bad since during summer only we require more water.
Manikandan Swami

Is the water level in Siruvani depleting? Otherwise why has the corporation taken this decision?
