Yes... This is absolutely true that consumers are being cheated at every step. Since, we are so busy in our daily life that we hardly claim for justice. But still there are many online sites which help consumers to recognize cheaters at some extent and make their decision easy. Before dealing with any builder I prefer to visit http://www.mouthshut.com/builders-and-developers and after reading reviews of experienced users, I take the another step. Precaution is better than Cure

If one can do a little homework before the investment or buying property, they can easily be saved their hard earned money. First and the most important thing to check the credential of the builders and the developers, successfully completed projects of that builder, if one is buying plot then they should check the conversion of land from agricultural to residential, legal documents of the land/plots, project approval, connectivity with the other parts of the city, location advantages, price appreciation of last 2-3 yrs., basic amenities in the locality, transport facilities in the localities etc.

that's right... but the sad and funny fact is even knowing we are cheated we don't have time to claim our justice..we are forced to neglect things in the fast running world.

Hi Annek and Santosh,
It is late realisation on the part of Weight & Measures Dept. cheating on weight can be detected in thousands if the inspectors care to sincerely inspect the weighing scales and the weights used by traders. The worst offenders are the hawkers who often use stone instead of weights bearing tamper proof weights. It mostly happens in rural areas.

Right Lokesh,
Even real estate firms are careful of the department's move to measure flats and ensure that buyers get what was promised. But builders say our inspectors are equipped to weigh only potatoes and tomatoes, that we will not understand the technicalities of property deals. Fortunately, the state government is supportive of our campaign. It is mostly seen that weights and measures, weighing scales and measuring tapes are often fake or tampered. I don't know who is responsible for that.

We are developing so many application everyday. Why don't we prepare an application for Android and IOS system for Smart Phones as sportsmen use stopwatch to check the distance they covered and the energy burnt which will track the distance traveled and the amount of money to be paid. This is the best way of checking rigging.

True Dwarkesh,
Consumers and activists were surprised to learn the uncountable ways in which they are cheated with every purchase. Last Friday, a citizens' group's interactive meeting with the department of weights and measures held at the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, turned out to be an eye-opener.
Santosh TR

Hi Santosh,
Earlier, we had initiated a drive to check meter tempering and overcharging by auto drivers. Similarly, we have to draw a campaign against these cheaters. We need enormous public support to teach them a lesson and realize them that "Grahak Jaag Chuke Hain".

Today's world the norms have been changing. Now, business means only making money. No matters how it come. Introduce very cheap, non-effective products with big advertisement and attractive packing. It happens only because of the government and industrialist involvement. Therefore, no standardisation of neither product, their weights, and prices.

Well Said Santosh,
But who cares? Rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer. A flood of questions arose. Our department governs the purchase of every item, except power. Petrol pumps often dispense lesser quantities than what motorists pay for, especially if people buy less than 5 litres. Part of that comes from using outdated technology, partly because pumps themselves are cheating by oil firms.
