Q: The Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said the State will take up the smart city mission through its own resources and also by pooling the resources.
According to Maharashtra CM, when they use their resources best, when they improve the usage of technology, the costs are cut, efficiency increases, the reach improves and the common man gets the service which he ought to have got and which he has been reject.
The 10 cities from Maharashtra that have been selected under the mission include Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Thane, Greater Mumbai, Amravati and Solapur. Overall, the Centre has selected 98 cities across the country under this mission.
In Maharashtra, they have decided that although the Central government will take up 20 cities this year under smart cities mission, which may include one, two or three cities from the State, but they are not ready to wait for other cities.
@Suresh, Even they know that the entire international community is looking for good investment opportunities. And Maharashtra CM thinks that this is one of the best investment opportunities. So, use to maximum advantage on that, they would start their smart city initiative, without consideration of how many cities are being chosen by the Centre this year.
As per Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra government will ensure that in the next 4 yrs, the 10 cities that have been selected under the Centre's ''smart cities mission'' will have all the ''smart elements'', including being clean and safe cities, offering affordable housing, public transport, health, education, and e-governance.
