Govt is ready to accept Congress'demand on GSL Bill
Q: Center is agreed to accept demands set by the opposition Congress party to back a landmark tax reform, raising hopes a political stand off that blocked the measure throughout last year might be resolved.
I completely agree with Ashish that 18% GST will skyrocket the inflation and hence it is against the poor people. If Congress is not willing to support GST it may be because it wants to do tit-for-tat for the reason that BJP oppose GST when Congress was in power.
Even i heard that Naidu met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to bring the government's decision. But Sonia Gandhi didn't assure him of her party's support. She said that she will discuss among themselves and take a final decision.
Congress want that the Government to cap the GST rate at less than 20%, scrap a proposed state tax and create an independent mechanism to resolve disputes on revenue sharing between states.
Is it a cat and mouse game, this passing of GST Bill. First UPA brings GST Bill - BJP opposes. Next BJP brings GST Bill, Congress (part of UPA) opposes. But what about the citizens of India? Who cares! If its the rates of GST that Congress is opposed to, it must get down to educating people of India the implication of such rates rather than wasting every one's time on what appears as only ''opposition for sake of opposition'' & nothing beyond.
Yes, i think so. But it will be only possible if Congress supports the measure. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu is saying that Government is willing to bring forward the next Parliament session to pass the proposed goods and services tax Bill.
And this proposed tax will be the India's biggest revenue change since Independence in 1947. This would seek to replace a cut down of federal and state taxes, transferring the nation of 1.2 billion people into a customs union.
