Hi folks, Have you read the news in which Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu sent a message yesterday that money allotted for the smart city projects can not be used for other purposes. They also asked the 20 selected cities to get the projects off the ground by June 25, the day Smart City Mission completes one year of its launch
Yes, and those 20 cities selected for the smart city mission will start their projects by June 25. Everything will be observed and everything will be watched. Money cannot be spent for other purposes. They also called for co-operation from the people for the success of the project. A city can not be smart if people don't co-operate with the administration.
Hi Anand, I can not deny buy many political leaders think that the competition based selection of cities, based on a set of rules is all fine but it brought pressure on them with people asking why not a single city from their states made it to the top 20.
Hi Poonam, Narendra Modi does not have an Alladin's djin with which he can make every city smart. There was no politics in choosing Smart Cities as many BJP-ruled states do not figure in the list, so do the constituencies represented by many VIPs.
Hi everybody, It is good news for the general public of Jammu & kashmir that the union government of India has agreed to considered Srinagar once again in the list of smart cities. It is said that the Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra had asked the Centre to consider bringing Jammu and Srinagar under smart city mission. The request was made to the Union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu through a letter.
It is true Priya. Naidu requested to consider both Jammu and Srinagar cities for being brought under Smart Cities Mission, the governor had emphasized that J&K is the only state that has two capital cities where more than half the urban population of the state resides while 11-12 million tourists and pilgrims visit these cities every year.
In final selection, there was a tie between Srinagar and Jammu cities due to the intra-city competition among the potential cities to be proposed for adding in Smart City Mission. And you will be glad to know that center has accepted the request and Vohra thanked Naidu for agreeing to consider his request for inclusion of both Jammu and Srinagar cities in the list of Smart Cities.
The 20 locations for the smart cities are Bhubaneswar, Pune, Jaipur, Surat, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Jabalpur, Vishakapatnam, Solapur, Davangere, Indore, New Delhi Municipal Corp, Coimbatore, Kakinada, Belagavi, Udaipur, Guwahati, Chennai, Ludhiana and Bhopal.
Hi Rajesh & Ananya, The Government will also announce 40 more cities each to be developed as smart cities as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plan to develop 100 smart cities in the country in the coming years.
Right Padma, Naidu's first priority will be on the need of inclusive urban development. He thinks that it is the need of the hour with ''Young India'' so that they will become more and more desirous.
Yes, there are 97 cities in the Smart City challenge, and the names of the first 20 winners of the competition will be announced today according to M Venkaiah Naidu. These cities will be developed to have basic infrastructure through assured water and power supply, sanitation and solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation.
Mr. Naidu also addressed the name of the 100 senior officers of Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil Services including 25 foreign officials to participate in a course on ''National Security and Strategic Studies'' at the National Defence College in Delhi.
