Hi Folks, But don't forget that building smart cities will require considerable system integration, simplification and standardization of geographical data which will be key enablers of building projects across India. It will result in higher quality of life for citizens.
Hi Girish, Over and above, affordable housing, which is already a priority for the government, would receive a further boost through the project. If strong IT frameworks, connectivity and digitization are made possible in smart cities, there would be a marked improvement in the quality of infrastructure.
Yes Sneha, And you know, a total area of 26735 acres will be taken up for improvements in these 20 cities including redevelopment of 425 acres in Bhopal (350 acres) and Ahmedabad (75 acres).
Hi Jitu, Now the property prices in these cities will increase soon after this announcement. The selected cities will be equipped with basic infrastructure, efficient urban mobility and public transport, IT connectivity and e-governance mechanisms. I am very confident that this announcement will further accelerate the transformation of cities into smart cities and will witness very significant investments in coming days.
Definitely Santosh, Bhubaneswar in Odisha topped the city challenge competition. Pune and Jaipur were 2nd and 3rd. The government has also offered a fast track window for the next rejected 23 cities based on their ranks to upgrade their proposals and submit them by April 15, 2016 for evaluation.
It seemed to me that the Smart City Challenge Competition was as hard and demanding as the civil services examination conducted by UPSC. It is cheering up to note that New Delhi's smart city proposal has been shortlisted in the first 20 list of cities to be funded.
Right Jitu, The 20 selected cities consist a mix of cities from all regions of India with high economic and industrial potential. Developing the project in the shortlisted cities would ensure quality infrastructure, technology-enabled services, sustainable public transport.
It's really a good news. I watched the news yesterday evening and want to share some useful information on it such as a total investment of Rs 50802 crore has been earmarked for the development of these cities and towns over a period of 5 yrs, of which, Rs 38693 crore will be spent on area development and Rs 12109 crore on a total of 56 pan-city solutions.
That is correct Jitu! The Government says that the cities will be provided with uninterrupted power and water supplies, proper sanitation and public transport in a $7.5 billion makeover to turn them into smart cities with living standards comparable to Europe. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to create 100 new smart cities by 2022 that will have internet connectivity, e-governance along with quality infrastructure such as waste management and efficient public transport.
