property tax in delhi

Q: I bought a re-sale(First re-sale) Flat in Dwarka Sec 23 in May 2017. The Flat was alloted to the original seller in Dec 2016. There was no property tax payment till date. My question is

1.should there be no property tax prior to dec 2016(FY 16-17) as the allotment took place in dec 2016?
2.If at all there is property tax for FY 16 -17 then is should be pro rated from Dec 2016 to March 2017?

The property tax helps the local municipal bodies with the funds for providing you services like the cleanliness of the area, proper supply of water, maintenance of roads, drainage etc. It also helps you in case of any property related dispute to prove the ownership. Is the property tax applicable to vacant land? Property tax is applicable on any kind of vacant land unless the land is used for agriculture purposes only.

Hi Santosh,
You should all those documents before buying the flat. Did you make the full payment to the seller. If yes, then it now depends on the seller, if he is ready to pay you the due property tax then its good for you. Otherwise you have to pay the due property tax before registration of the flat.

I think you should take the advice of a legal expert in this matter. If will guide you in a proper way. Otherwise, you have to conveyance the original seller for paying the due property tax.
