Overview :
Extern Express Highway or EEH is a major highway in India serving the city of Mumbai. It is considered as one of the busiest and major roads in the MMR and is a part of NH3. It is a north-south artery road of Mumbai connecting the city to the eastern suburbs and metropolitan area of Thane. It is a 6-lane wide road (3 lanes in each direction) with several flyovers. EEH begins at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and extends up to Thane. It ends at Chembur from Sion Panvel Highway at RCF Junction to the outer limits of the city. It loads heavy traffic during rush hours. It is expected that more than 50000 passenger cars run daily on it. It continues as Dr Ambedkar Road beyond Sion towards south. It is one of the several key roads widened and improved under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project to link Sion in Central Mumbai to Thane and beyond. Linking roads such as Jogeshwari - Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and Santa Cruz - Chembur Link Road (SCLR) are the major arterial roads connecting Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway. Proposed and Planned Infra :
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is planning to start building three flyovers on the Eastern Express Highway to decongest the Chheda Nagar junction at Ghatkopar. Plan for removing paver blocks from various crossings and relay them with mastic asphalt by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Plan for the foot overbridges (FOBs) on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) between Sion and Mulund by MMRDA. MMRDA’s plans to extend the freeway by 3 km and connect it to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) in Ghatkopar. Planned for North-South Metro-4 corridor (32.32 km long) Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali that will connect Wadala In Central Mumbai with the neighbouring Thane district via the Eastern Express Highway.
