BBMP property tax online payment underway

online payBruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has initiated online payment of property tax for the financial year 2013-14. Although the civic authority’s initiative has been lauded for making it easier to pay property tax for citizens, the online payment process seems to be far from being perfect.

The civic authority has claimed that BBMP property tax online payment is hassle free and is available to all pockets in the city. However, property owners in pockets like Byatarayanapura, Vidyaranyapura and Dodda Bommasandra have complained that they have not been able to avail the online services and instead had to visit the BBMP office in order to pay property tax.

More than 50,000 property owners from many pockets in the city like Byatarayanapura off Belary Road have complained that they have not been able to pay their tax online yet. They have been compelled to make rounds to BBMP office as a consequence.

The online payment service also includes associated services like determining zone of a property inside the city and property tax calculator. The property owners need to access the service through inserting their Property Identification number (PID) which contains details of ward number, street number and plot number. Online payment offers the option of paying property tax at one go or paying in two installments.

The BBMP sources have stated that property owners of Byatarayanapura have not been able to pay property tax online as the area had not been covered under PID enrollment due to election duties. Due to this, the property owners will have to pay the taxes manually for the year.

The BBMP has reportedly collected property tax worth Rs 89 crore in the last couple of weeks. Property owners who had paid their tax on or before April 30 are entitled to receive a rebate of 5%. The civic authority can be reached at bbmpit@gmail.com in case any of the property owners face difficulty associated with paying tax online.

New initiative by BBMP

From this year onwards, BBMP has started to link property tax payment with power and water supply details of a resident. As per the new plan, while paying property tax online, the tax payer needs to update his/her RR number,i.e, electricity meter number as well as water supply details. The civic authority has come up with the plan so that people do not underestimate the duty to pay property tax on time. If and when they fail to pay tax for their property on time, the authorities can hamper the power and water supply they receive.
