Maybe we can prepare a checklist for these things. Some list that we can carry while visiting the houses?

It really depends on your requirements and needs. Places for hanging clothes for drying should be strategically present in the house. Fireplaces if any should be placed in corners supported with chimneys. There has to be designated rooms for dining, kids and pantry areas at suitable locations inside your home. There has to be exhaust vents in the kitchen to let the smoke out.
Your future home should have enough sunlight penetrating inside the living space; windows should be large and electrical sockets at the right places. The privacy of bedrooms should be well planned. There has to be well planned services such as Electrical, water, air-conditioning.
