So, this initiative was taken as there was a need to discourage people from undertaking illegal constructions by stopping the civic services which I feel is good. What are the past records which made the civic body to take this step? Any numbers??

Around 1.5 lakh unauthorised structures have been identified in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many notices, police complaints had been filed previously to demolish such constructions that have come up after March 31, 2012. But, on the other hand, these structures had access to civic amenities such as water and drainage connections, streetlights and roads.

The proposal for the same was sent to the civic body in October 2012 to stop provisions of civic services to these buildings.
As per Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, the municipal has the power to take action if civic body and committees fail to act on a particular act in three months.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has stopped providing civic services to the unauthorised constructions which are built in its limits after March 31, 2012.
The services stopped include water supply, drainage connections and streetlights, among other facilities. The action is being taken on the directives of the municipal commissioner.
The property tax department has also been directed not to conduct assessment of the unauthorised properties in Pune.
