Managing director, BMRCL said that with additional infrastructure, Baiyyappanahalli can be developed as a terminal from where at least eight new trains can start to different places including Mumbai. As the Metro Phase II connects Baiyyappanahalli with Whitefield, the upgrading of the terminal is going to help a lot to the business community people. With the present infrastructure, four to six trains can be stationed at the terminal.
However, the Indian Railways appear to have a different plan. A higher official of SWR said that they have created infrastructure for a pit line maintenance with the funds allotted to them and upgrading the terminal capacity will take some more time. The stoppages for more trains will be provided at junction depending on public demand and sale of tickets. If there is a necessity for more stoppages, the SWR will write to the Railway Board and the Railway board will take the final call.
Members of South Western Railway Board (SWR), officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Chief Secretary to government, Urban Development Department, Infrastructure Development and other related agencies will attend the meeting. The immediate need was to ask SWR provide stoppages for more trains at Baiyyappanahalli, since some trains do not go beyond the Cantonment Station. The next step is to provide amenities to the passenger at Baiyyappanhalli and construction of a ramp to provide connectivity between the railway and metro stations. The project will neither cost more nor needs alteration in train schedules.
Indian Railways passengers may catch Metro train at the Baiyyappanahalli station if all goes well as per the plans of Legislative Council. If sources are to be believed, the head of Joint legislature Committee on Railways, Mr Shankaramurthy would call up for a meeting of stake holders to deliberate on the measures to provide Railway-Metro connectivity at Baiyyappanahalli.
