Around 20,000 new low-cost housing units are being planned to be constructed, with this it is expected that people in need of affordable homes will get a shelter so that this kind of mishaps will not ocur. It will reduce the number of illegal buildings.

As per the proposed amendment, in place of additional floor space index (FSI), the redevelopment projects of Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) will take extra flats from developers. Im not sure how fruitful it would result.

Guys, 74 people were killed in Thane, when an unauthorised under-construction building at Shil-Phata collapsed on April 4. It was coming up on a forest land. Many political leaders blamed and criticised Thane Municipal Corporation and the state government for not being alert in regulating illegal buildings in Mumbai and other cities of the state. Only when such mishaps occur, the authorities become alert, then it is the same old position.

I guess u r right Kaushik.. But I wish that should not happen anymore because so many lives will be at risk if such buildings are not stopped.. The Housing minister had announced that they are taking several measures to maintain transparency in the proposed system. He said that an officer will be appointed for each ward who will be responsible to check irregularities in construction activities in that particular ward.

I read in a news that the state government has planned to appoint special officers at the municipal corporations in order to regulate such illegal constructions. Even they appoint officials, I doubt they will be working honestly.. We have been seeing from decades as how most of the govt employees work.. Bribery is the boss to them.
