Yes, at last the Kochi Corporation have woken up to the problems faced by residents of the city. Hopefully this waste treatment plant can reduce the garbage that is dumped in empty plots, and transport the garbage and process it in the plant. Many residents have complained that in the previous Brahmapuram plant the leachate from the plant was dumped into the Kadambrayar river. The corporation has said that they will treat the leachate before releasing it into the river. We will have to wait and see if the plant will be fully utilised by the corporation

It is good that the Kochi Municipal Corporation are taking some initiative towards solid waste treatment. Kochi city has always had bad sewerage, drainage, and waste treatment. It will cost Rs.350 crore for the construction of the solid waste treatment plant. T
he plant is set to be completed sometime in 2014, but you can never be sure of the completion date with Kochi Corporation. The plant will help generate gas and electricity by processing the garbage, and it can generate 300 tonnes of garbage each day

The new Brahmapuram solid waste treatment plant will be ready by the end of 2014. The old treatment plant had a few technical snags which is why a new plant is being readied. The new plant will be of use for Kochi as well as for some municipalities around Kochi.
The solid waste treatment plant will also have a composting section, effluent treatment plant, and a bio-methanation plant as well. But, there have been some delays with construction process as a few agencies have not received the work order. Kitco which has been given the project have not been given the go ahead as well as the funds for the project
