Q: How is the garbage disposal system in Coimbatore? I’ll be investing in real estate there, so I wanted to know how the waste disposal system is. Anybody has any information?
Hey, yeah you’re right about that solid waste management system that was started in Coimbatore. But it hasn’t been too effective as of yet. The funds allocated haven’t been enough apparently, all the citizens have not yet received the white and green garbage bins, there is a shortage of garbage pushcarts and garbage bins on the roads. Also, the number of vehicles that the system thought of employing for the transmit and dumping of garbage is not enough. There is Rs 45 lacs more that the Union Government allocated this project, which will be used soon enough to make the whole system better.
Hey there have been some major changes in the garbage disposal system in Coimbatore. Around Rs 98 crore was allotted to the solid waste management scheme in Coimbatore. Under this scheme the corporation is distributing different coloured bins to residents to help them segregate wet and dry waste products. Educating the city’s residents on the benefits and methods of waste segregation is one of the main motives of this scheme. But I don’t know how far it has been successful in doing that, I can still see overflowing garbage bins in areas like Mahaliamman Kovil Street.
