Q: Hello all, I am looking to relocate to Kochi from Mysore with my family, since my parents live there. However, I have come across many complaints regarding outbursts of malaria and water-borne diseases frequently during monsoons, and I’m concerned. Can anyone please let me know what the situation is?
Hi, I absolutely agree with that. After a lot of complaints having been put forward, the government has taken this issue seriously. They are even conducting health camps on a massive scale to spread awareness among the people regarding these diseases, and to provide early treatment. All the major schools and other institutions are being targeted and soon they have promised to keep a lid on this outbreak. As far as the waterlogging is concerned, it is still a major issue in some areas like Mattancherry and Fort Kochi, but these issues are also being addressed by the local bodies and will soon be resolved.

Hey, you are right to be concerned about this issue, and yes, there have been quite a few issues in this regard. Unfortunately the roads are still getting waterlogged during monsoons, and the spread of disease is a big issue. But the good news is that the local government has been working to eradicate this problem, and they are making good progress. The drainage system is being reworked upon and the count of people being affected by this is decreasing steadily. So I would say that in the near future this problem will no longer be a cause for concern, so if you are relocating, then you won’t have to face this issue for long.
