Q: Hi, I wanted to know about the unofficial power cuts that are happening in Kochi regularly now. This is causing much trouble. Can I know some detailed information about this?

Latest Answer: Actualy, we residents challenged these 'excuses' and asked how technical failures could occur on a daily basis. In Kaloor area, power went out at least 14 times a day last week. Frequent power failures are a routine affair now.

Q: Hi, I heard that there is a water crisis in Kochi even before the summer began. Can you give any information about this?

Latest Answer: I think that there is no water in Mattancherry also. I am from Nasreth in Mattancherry. For cooking purposes and all, I take water from a public tap because there is no pipe connection to the house. There has not been supply for the past 4-5 days, and many people borrow water from neighbouring houses to cook food.

Q: Hey guys, my wife really wants to relocate to Kochi since it is her hometown, but I am hesitant because of the alarming crime rate and a number of child abduction cases. We have a five year old, and I don’t feel safe raising my child in such an environment. Can anyone offer any advice on this?
Latest Answer: Yeah that is true but I wouldn’t be so casual about it. Kochi actually reported an increase of 193% in crime rates in recent times. That being said, the police force is also taking extreme measures to contain crimes in this area, and I have personally seen a significant increase in police patrols in the past few months. About half these petty crimes take place in tourist spots, like Fort Kochi. If you do move here, you will have to practice caution, but It isn’t so bad that you have to lose your head about it.

Q: Hello all, I am looking to relocate to Kochi from Mysore with my family, since my parents live there. However, I have come across many complaints regarding outbursts of malaria and water-borne diseases frequently during monsoons, and I’m concerned. Can anyone please let me know what the situation is?
Latest Answer: Hi, I absolutely agree with that. After a lot of complaints having been put forward, the government has taken this issue seriously. They are even conducting health camps on a massive scale to spread awareness among the people regarding these diseases, and to provide early treatment. All the major schools and other institutions are being targeted and soon they have promised to keep a lid on this outbreak. As far as the waterlogging is concerned, it is still a major issue in some areas like Mattancherry and Fort Kochi, but these issues are also being addressed by the local bodies and will soon be resolved.

Q: Is there still water-logging in Kochi city?
Latest Answer: Cleaning the drains and canals is not the only solution for solving the water-logging problem in Kochi. The corporation must find a scientific approach as some parts of Kochi are below sea level. In some localities interlocking bricks have been used to stop roads to become water-logged. In February, the deputy mayor had said that Rs. 5 crore would be allocated for cleaning drains and canals. I don't know when this will actually happen.
