Q: What is the water condition in Hyderabad? I will be moving there soon. Can someone tell me a bit about the water supply there, especially in areas like Anandnagar, Kundan Bagh, Punjagutta, Ameerpet, and Somajiguda?
Yes, I know firsthand about that kind of discrimination. I used to live in Ameerpet, and faced similar problems. My cousin, who lives in Prashashan Nagar, has no issues with water supply, because a lot of important political personalities and bureaucrats live there. So I would advise you to consider areas like that, and also Kundan Bagh, Punjagutta Colony, and MLA Colony, if you’re going to moving to Hyderabad. Avoid Anandnagar, Ameerpet, Somajiguda and Yousufguda.
Punjagutta Colony on the other hand gets uninterrupted water supply every day. This one is different from Punjagutta. In Punjagutta Colony, mostly all these IPS and IAS officers live, which is why it has such consistent water supply. But other places close to it, Punjagutta for example, gets water on alternate days, for just 45 minutes, and without any fixed supply time. Even getting the tankers is a major problem, as you have to book in advance due to the high demand in these areas.
Yeah he is right the water scene is shaky. The two major lakes of water supply in Hyderabad – Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, are both drying up. So there is a major shortage of water. And to top it all, there is discrimination in the whole water supply system. What I mean is, if you’re an IPS or IAS officer then you’ll get continuous water supply throughout the week, but for that, regular people like us have to suffer, and go without water for 3-4 days at a stretch.
Water condition in Hyderabad is really not dependable. At least, I can tell you about the locality of Punjagutta, because I stay there. I mean, one day water is there, then next day we wont get even a drop. Then we’ll have to try to get the water tankers to come and provide us with some relief. Especially in the summer months this condition becomes unbearable. I don’t specifically know about the conditions in the other localities that you mentioned, but I think the supply is pretty shaky everywhere in this city.
