Godrej family the highest bidder for Bhabha bungalow Rs.372 crore
Q: Hi, do you know that the Godrej family became the highest bidder for Bhabha Bungalow in which Dr Homi J Bhabha, father of India's atomic energy programme, lived for years.
The second highest bidder was Ajay Piramal with his bid of Rs 371 crore. NCPA will seek the charity commissioner's approval to transfer the property, a process which could take around 45 days. It is said that the eight entities had registered themselves for the auction as eligible bidders.
They offer to pay Rs 372 crore. They bid for Meherangir — a bungalow and get the keys atlast in which Dr Homi J Bhabha, father of India's atomic energy programme, lived for years.
The news came from the people familiar with the auction process that the wife of Jamshyd Godrej, bid for the property on behalf of the family. At Rs 372 crore this is one of the highest amounts to be forked out for a standalone property. The Godrej family has bought the bungalow for their own use.
The National Centre for Performing Arts which owns the seafaced property, concluded the public auction. NCPA did not disclose the identity of the highest bidder.
