Government has finalied a smart city plan for Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi makeover has grow to be a high precedence for the city development ministry. Varanasi will be developed as a smart city with cooperation from Kyoto, the japanese which is a confluence of heritage and modernity.
V. Victor

Yes victor you are right, I think government has taken initative for smart city project with the objective is to arrange a citizen-friendly suggestion as the smart city project is for them. Therefore, we're inviting locals and all stakeholder companies working within the city for various causes to come forward and put forth their suggestions and ideas as to what facilities they would want in their city.

I have read some where that the proposed transport infrastructure also includes a metro rail. An IT park, a skill development centre and an IT research and development centre are also mooted. The ministry plans to restore the Sarnath Temple, the Jain temples of Varanasi with help from the Archaeological Survey of India.

Citizens are requested to suggest innovative, sustainable and SMART solutions regarding services for under below area based strategies:
1. PAN City Initiative : Selection of a service by citizen for implementation of that service on entire city
2. Area Based Development: Selection of specified area rather than entire city based on three models:
a. Retrofitting: (Planning and improvement of infrastructure in an existing City built-up area of at least 500 acre)

Hi Sree, Can you please explain me what is the reason that a single road were not widened in 2011 master plan?
Lakshya

The planner could not to able to widen the roads as per the plans . The planners avoided taking new roads widening or other development works in the new master plan. The new master plan also contains that due to the wrong alignment of Ghazipur road the land use had been affected badly.

The Varanasi Master plan 2031 not only contains proposals for future development of the city, but will also expose how the VDA failed to implement the Master plan 2011. The 2011 master plan had proposed widening of 26 roads of Old City area. However, not a single road could be widened.

More significant is to see that most of the new proposals like making of city centers, wholesale markets and bazaar street in the new master plan have been structured by taking into consideration the proposed ring-road. However, the state government is not looking keen to make the ring-road project function now
