Kovai Drowning Deaths

Q: I have 2 children and I'm relocating to Saravanampatti with them. But I heard about the recent dangers of the abandoned wells that have no safety measures? What is the situation now?

Actually what happened was, in April a 23 year old boy went swimming in the tank with a couple of minors who were in school. He didn't use of the thermocol floats that the other boys were using and as a result, he drowned. The others tried their best to rescue him but nothing helped. They decided to keep this a secret but eventually they told their teacher what had happened and his body was uncovered from the well. These situations should be avoided, it is just so unfortunate. Even a 3 year old boy drowned in a water storage tank right behind his mother who had just turned her back on him for a second. Not many people in Coimbatore are used to swimming so they shouldn't try all these things and risk their lives. But now action has been taken and these tanks and well will definitely not be accessible to the public anymore.

Well actually more people died because of this. 13 men, 3 women and 3 school boys. A couple of these deaths were even identified to be suicides. The police has started to take action about the situation. Land owners are strictyly advised to keep their wells closed or covered with a guaze. They have been told to avoid letting people come next to their wells completely. Saravanampatti is known to be a good locality to live in so don't let this incidient change that. Be sure to tell your children also about the dangers of these wells and to keep away from them at all costs. It is sad that schools had to shut down as a result of this danger though.

Yes, the situation was pretty scary. A lot of children love to swim in wells. They are used to bathing in them as well. That's why many of them starting taking advantage of the abandoned wells just left like that in the locality. The situation got pretty bad. I think 10 wells were identified within police headquarters and there were around 9 deaths and 3 school children ended up losing their lives because of trying to swim in these wells. This needs to be controlled and the wells need to be closed up or something before more people get hurt. Police and authorities should take action to prevent such unfortunate deaths.
