Water Supply in Coimbatore

Q: I just got a job in Coimbatore, so I need to move there. I know that the city has faced water problems in the past but now there is talk that there will be a new source of water. Can someone from Coimbatore give me more information on this please. Thanks!

Not all wards for the fresh water connection in July 2013. Only some of them did till Jan 2014. After which the civic authorities stopped taking applications for new pipelines because they were waiting to implement the online system. Now the problem seems to be solved. All wards are going to get ample amount of water as for once, everything has gone according to plan. 10,000 water connections to about 100 wards were given till Jaunary. Don't worry too much about Coimbatore water issues because I think all the households will be benefitted from this new pipeline. Just remember to get it registered. :)

Hello good day to you! The reason why there is an online portal to register for water application is because it is to avoid those middlemen who will bribe the resident applicants and bribe the, by charging lots of money. This is most convenient way of getting new water supply. The corporation is slowly planning to reinforce the once in 4 day Siruvani water supply cycle to about 30 wards but it depends on the present water level in the resevoir. 113mm of rainfall gave Siruvani 870 m of water in catchment areas and 56 mm in the foothills. We even got around 127 mld from Pillur drinking water schemes. This is a very good news indeed!

Yes the water levels have risen. the mayor has also stated that we will get new application for water starting from August 1. The residents feel it is high time and finally it is happening. The process of getting new application is an online process. There is a portal of the civic authorities, where we have to enter our personal details and request for the new water pipeline. It will ask for mobile number and everything. After all the information is provided, the request is saved, and any more details will be sent to the residents through SMS. Inspection date, plumber in charge and date of work will be sent by sms. This project didn't end up happening last year because there was lack of funds as well as not enough plumbers for the job. Only 60 plumbers but there were 100 residents. Now I don't think there will be any more problems.

Hey there. The July monsoon has brought with it heavy rains that are feeding water bodies such as the Siruvani reservoir in Kerela. The civic authorities have plans of utilising this increased water level and set up new pipeline connections for Coimbatore. Everyone knows that Coimbatore can get extremely hot in the summer months and during that time, water supply is irregular and there is water shortage all over the city. This should hopefully help us overcome that situation. Just last year, there was supposed to be a new pipeline installed, but the Siruvani reservoir went dry. So the Coimbatore Corporation had to divert water from Pilloor to Siruvani. It was a big process but needless to say, we never ended up getting that new water supply system. Hopefully we should get it soon!
