Yeah, my friend lives there and he said that all the residents of that colony had actually gone up to the corporation commissioner and demanded that something be done about this situation. According to the local RWA body, the society tricked them into thinking that they were building a community hall for the resident. Then they claimed that it was a school. Eventually they didn’t build either of those, and just erected this structure. They have their office there and three rooms here have also been rented out.
Yes, you’re right. The Ramanathapuram RWA has been petitioning the higher officials to free up this area and other parks that have been blocked like this, for the children. But the housing society is still hell-bent upon constructed even more illegal buildings on this site. Did you know that they are going to build a number of public distribution shops on this site! That’s outrageous! I hope the corporation takes some serious action against these illegal constructions by simply tearing them all down.
I know which park you’re talking about. And not just those illegal constructions, this housing society has also dumped all these unnecessary garbage like broken poles and other items all over the southern side of the park site. My son used to love going there to play with his friends in the evenings, but now I don’t let him go there anymore, because I don’t feel that it will be safe for him.
Unfortunately even in Ramanathapuram we are not away from the encroachment problems. This used to be a really nice and safe residential locality, with lots of open spaces. But not so any more, because of all these unauthorised constructions cropping up everywhere. For example, there used to be a playground in T. Nagar in ward 67. But now there is the Ramanathapuram Cooperative house building society office is here instead. Also a studio, a dance school and a printing press here, all unauthorised, leaving no space at all for the kids to play here.
