Overflowing Piplyahana Pond

Q: Hey so I might have to relocate to Piplyahana and I don't know much about the locality, but I've heard that it faces many sewage problems and waterlogging issues? What has the Indore Municipal Corporation done about these issues?

Hi all,
I would like to tell you that the Rs 432-crore project, which was launched by BJP patriarch Lal Krishna Advani on February 25 in the presence of senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj, former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, Yog guru Baba Ramdev and Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan seems to have been forgotten by the state government.

Yes and the mayor and cabinet minister both laid foundations for different developments they want to be undertaken in this space. Things like beautification of gardens, plantation, developing a fountain and light facilities, and other such recreational infrastructure are also all part of the project. Seems to be a really good deal for Indore if you ask me. Seems like you're moving at the perfect time, though this project still seems to be tentative as there is nothing much known about it as yet.

The task of laying out this pipelinehas been given to Saxena group. Saxena is even taking responsibility of the detailed project report of this project . There's to be a 1000 m pipeline to be laid out from Vandana Nagar sector C. The rains play such a finicky role about all this. Sometimes there's too much rain where you have to run for shelter and somemtimes there are just droughts. This time when it rained, the pipliyahana river overflowed causing many people to get affected as a result especially the residents.

Yeah the Indore municipal crporation is doing somewhere about the over flowing Pipliyahana pond that has known to cause a lot of problems for the citizens living here in the past. During the rainy season especially this is much needed. There's going to be a pipeline laid out through Bakhtawar Ram Nagar in IMC ward 47. This is done to drain out all the excess water because of the water logging problem here. There's to be a 'nullah' laid out and the responsibiltiy of this is entrusted with Saxena & Associates .

Yeah because of this, all the areas which needed to be covered, were covered with temporary cement lida but the problem was these lid kept getting stolen by somebody or the other because by taking out the steel and iron, it is possible to make money by selling these elements. In places where there are many hostels, hotels and auto garages, there is also a higher tendency for sewage blockage here. Household waste and debris from these places aren't segregated and they go and completely choke the sewage line causing all these problems. When this happenes, people who clean up the drains have found things like debris, thermacoal seats and other solid waste materials.

Last year in December the Indore Municipal Corporation did this whole survey of seeing which places in Indore had inefficient sewage lines in the city and it was found that Pipliyahana, Bapat Square and Janjeerwala Square were among the places which weren't covered. Immediatey the sewarage department was alerted and told to do their job so now routine inspections are being carried out at every zone level and to make sure there are no chambers left uncovered. So the situation is much better now. I don't much about the Pipliyahana pond project, just that it costs 1.75 crore for the entire things.

Well Rahat,
I would like to draw your attention that Dr.Rahul Banerjee, a graduate from IIT in Civil Engineering and urban water expert, conducted a study on Indore's water supply and sanitation situation. He discovered that the current water supply model prescribed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was unsustainable and also very costly. This model lifts water from the Narmada river, which is 50 kms away from town, and supplies it all over.
