Rain impact on Hyderabad roads

Q: I feel that the roads in Hyderabad now are very bad after the monsoon. Potholes everywhere. And even traffic congestions. Is anything going to be done about this? Any other problems are there with the roads?

I don't understand it though. usually every year GHMC comes up with an elaborate road maintenance plan during monsoon season that costs between 25 to 30 crore. This time, no plans were made, no alternatives were made. People just have to suffer through these roads I guess.

Some of the key places in Hyd having very bad roads especially when it rains are: Madhapur police station-Durgam Cheruvu, Dar-ul-Shifa, Mandi Mir Alam, Kotla Alijah, Khairatabad, Lakdi Ka Pul, Sainikpuri- ECIL X Roads, Road No. 13 Banjara Hills, Road No. 3, Sindhi Colony, Sri Nagar Colony, Moosapet Road, Habsiguda main road, Kishanbagh and JNTU main road. Avoid these stretches as much as you can, when there is heavy traffic.

I have filed a complaint about this road problem in Hyderabad during monsoon season for years now. All they do about it, is fill the inundations and potholes with soil. This becomes loose so fast and comes apart and makes the road very slippery. Do they not realise how dangerous this is?

Traffic that was coming towards Jubilee Bus Station from Alwal was also in chaos. Rain water was stgnant. It was disgusting. And even traffic and road situation on Cantonment roads is pathetic. The corporation doesn't even come to check once about the potholes and craters on the road.

GHMC is always trying to pass the buck onto either politicans or residents saying that because they keep intervening or objecting to the road work, even GHMC can't abide by IRC regulations. Oh by the way, most of the roads in Hyderabad have been considered unfir for use as per IRC standards.

I was one of those peoples stranded on Tadbund-Sikh Village stretch. The rains that kept coming and going really damaged these roads. Could not move also.

Last Monday situation was very bad. i was outside Wesley College on SP road and there was a huge accident that created so much confusion, anger and chaos. I had to get to office so I had to take a small road route and went into SIndhi Colony. But this was also so congested with other people desperately trying to mae it on office on time. It was very bad scene.

Last week because of the rains, several arterial roads choked with heavy morning traffic, peak hour time, and the traffic had to move so slowly to avoid potholes. It was very bad experience for everyone and it really angered eevryone that this was the current state of road infrastructure.

The roads in Hyderabad are abysmal. One shower of rain and it is impossible to move in the city. The roads get flooded, clogged, and there are huge craters, potholes and flood water just ebbing away, making it impossible to commute anywhere.
