Is it Legal for any housing Association to cut once water supply?
Q: One of my bathroom is leaking through the floor and it is spreading to the below flat. I am ready to repair the leakage but have asked the below flat owner to bear 50% of the amount since it is effecting both of us. They have disagreed to that and have complain to the association.
To that the housing association has sent me a notice asking to repair the leakage in 3 days if not they will cut my water supply.
Is it Legal for any housing Association to cut once water supply even when they have paid their maintenance. please advise.
After go through the above discussion i would like to say you that your landlord is generally responsible for external and major structural repairs. You are usually responsible for internal decoration and for making sure that furniture and other contents, and fixtures and fittings are not damaged because of your irresponsibility.

HI, As a tenant, you have the right to have your home kept in a reasonable state of repair. However, you also have to look after it. It is an offence for your landlord to do anything which they know is likely to make you leave the home or prevent you from exercising your legal rights. This could include repeatedly disturbing you late at night or obstructing access to the home, creating noise, disconnecting supplies of water, gas or electricity where your landlord knows that this is likely to drive you out or discourage you from insisting on your legal rights.
Yes, you are absolutely right, At the same time you have to be alert. In some buildings Welfare Associations are formed and registered under the Societies Registration Act. Also there are many buildings with unregistered associations. I do not know as to which category your Association belongs. Do you have byelaws and if so have you got a copy of the same. Has your Association got a letter head? Does it give the rigistration details?
The Association cannot cut off water supply to any flat. If they do that you can easily get court injunction against the Association.
