In spite of that, entertainment tax will be doubled and cleanliness tax will be hiked to 5% from the existing 2%. Road tax, drainage tax and water supply tax will go up by 1% each. The property tax department of the PCMC has claimed that the civic body will get an additional revenue of Rs 35 crore annually if the tax is increased.
At present, the PCMC charges 13% tax for residential properties and 18% for commercial properties. As per the new proposal, 16% property tax will be charged for residential properties, while the tax for commercial properties will remain the same.
As of now, the administration has now forwarded details of the proposal, including the standing committees decision, to the PCMCs general body, which will take a final call on the issue. If the general body also rejects the civic proposal, 2015-16 will be the 2nd consecutive fiscal where there has been no hike in these taxes in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The administration also hope for a decrease in revenue from LBT, property and water taxes and building permission fee in 2014-15. At the same time, the standing committee also sanctioned Rs 12 crore to the cash-strapped Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). While Rs 6 crore will cover the transport undertaking's operational losses, the rest has been intended for the free travel passes for students.
Meanwhile, the standing committee also sanctioned Rs 12 crore to the cash-strapped Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). While Rs 6 crore will cover the transport undertaking's operational losses, the rest has been earmarked for the free travel passes for students.
PMPML chairman and managing director Shrikar Pardeshi, who has the additional charge of the undertaking, had requested the PCMC to make payments for the operational losses and other dues.
According to me, the administration had also proposed an increase in entertainment tax. A special cleanliness tax for malls, lodging-boarding, function halls, hotels, hospitals and canteens was also to be introduced for the first time, as per the proposal. The administration was hoping to get additional revenue of Rs 35 crore with the tax hike.
In my point of view, the PCMC thinks that the local body tax (LBT) is likely to be scrapped from the next financial year. The administration also expects a shortfall in revenue from LBT, property and water taxes and building permission fee in 2014-15.
Hi Mr Rohit, As per my knowledge, the standing committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has rejected the proposed hike in property tax for 2015-16. Last week, panel members had raised strong objections to the increase and had deferred the proposal. The civic administration had proposed the hike in tax on the rateable value of residential and commercial properties before the standing committee.
