Q: Hi there, I needed to know if there is any waste management project that is going on in Kochi. kochi city is turning into a garbage dumb and, I think without any proper waste management plans, it wont be helpful
I think that the there are many polluted canals in the city. One of the particular issue that i would like to point out to you is the Thevara-Perandoor canal. I think that the Kerala State Urban Development Programme or KSUDP has been asked to conduct a study on the cleaning of this canal.
Hey, first of all, in my opinion..when it comes to clearing of drains and canals, the residents, traders as well as other businessing community here that you can see will first have to stop the practice of dumping solid waste in the drains.
But, you know one thing, if the municipality has to go ahead with the project, i think they will have to address the objections that are raised by the residents also. The plant coming up in the west kochi and the pipeline will also be laid through the narrow streets here. There are also heritage buildings in this region.
Hey, yeah...now the National Green Tribunal or the NGT has given a green signal, I guess for the sewage treatment plant and the networking system that was proposed at Mundamveli.
I think at present, the sewage from the city is removed in the tanker trucks. Moreover, I am very opposed to these people because they are dumping the wastes in the river and other water bodies that they see.
Hey, the existing solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram is also likely to break down any time. Even though you can see the suchitwa mission that has joined hands with the panchayath to set up a waste treatment plant, they also have not completed tender procedures.
I think for the corporation this is going to be an uphill task no? They will have to address issues related to effective waste management, clearing of the drainage, cleaning of the arterial and the small canals and the setting up a sewage treatment facility.
Hey, this project for management of solid waste will be taken over by the local self government bodies. This will aim to take measures so as to check the spread of the communicable diseases that is likely to happen in the coming monsoon.
yeah..actually, this is the case about most of the city. I think that this situation will sustain if there is no proper management. Recently in the news, I think that the state government has given some measures to said that there will be measures for solid waste management.
