Information on construction of bridge across the periyar in Kochi
Q: Hi, i recently heard that the bridge that was being developed in the periyar is almost completed. Can someone confirm the same, and thanks for the interest in this question!
I read somewhere that Mr. Thettayil, a local MLA said that a one-day tourism package connecting tourist and pilgrimage destinations of Kalady, Malayattoor, Ezhattumugham, Athirappilly, Vazhachaal, Kodanad, Paniyeliporu, Mulamkuzhi, and Iringol would be implemented shortly. I think that tourism would really develop with these steps.
Well i came to know that street lights would be installed on the bridge by the Malayattoor-Neeleeswaram and Koovappady panchayats. Great initiative by the panchayats in my opinion, and would really help these areas develop.
Yes, i also know that one acre had been acquired for the approach roads. Kurichilakkod junction will be developed by evicting encroachments and making available land owned by the police station. This should help with improving the connectivity around this area.
I agree with the comment below me saying that this is a good time for kochi's connectivity infrastructure. To add to that. modernisation of Kalady-Malayattoor, Vallam-Kurichilakkodu, and Kuruppamppady-Kurichilakodu roads approaching up to the new bridge at an investment of Rs. 20 crore is currently under progress.
I know that last year, a bridge was opened at Thiruvairanikkulam. Construction of approach roads using the puramboke land and plots surrendered by people in Kodanad region will also be completed shortly. Good times for Kochi's infrastrucutre, i must say.
Did you know that the construction started after receiving administrative sanction during the previous LDF government. Incidentally, this is only the second bridge to be constructed across the Periyar in 50 years. Well i'm glad this new one came along finally.
I would like to tell you about some details regarding the bridge that has been constructed. The 253-metre-long and 11.05-metre-wide bridge had been constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 crore. The construction had started in December 2010.
Well, i was at the press conference held in Kochi a few days back, and MLAs Jose Thettayil and Saju Paul said the new bridge would address the traffic problems along MC Road and Kalady to a great extent. Hope this helps.
Yeah, i heard that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the Malayattoor-Kodanad bridge across the Periyar, linking pilgrimage and tourist destinations, on March 28. Great news for our city, don't you think? This will surely boost the growth in the area.
