I wanted to add that the other stretches being developed include Vellanad- Chettachal road in Thiruvananthapuram, Vidya Nagar- Meipadi- Seethangoli road, Uppala- Kanyana road in Kasaragod, Chowa- Mattanur road in Kannur, and Kanjirapilly-Kanjiramkavala road in Kottayam.
Good news that the land required for a 10-metre-wide carriageway and one-metre-wide road shoulders has already been acquired. Junctions will be widened, bus bays built, and street lights installed. It seems that the construction will finish in a reasonable time.
Did you know that the road provides connectivity to Sabarimala pilgrims. An upfront payment during the 2.5-year construction period will enable bidders to reduce annuity quotes. The World Bank is expected to provide $30.50 million.
The World Bank-aided road development phase II is for upgrading 363 km of State roads, of which work on 240 km is under way. The six projects which were presented before the bank’s delegates on Saturday included upgrading of Punalur-Ponkunnam road with private participation for Rs.560 crore.
Yeah, i was there for the investors meet and i heard that while addressing the delegates, Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson directed the officials concerned to fast-track work on road corridors and bridges. This should help quicken the pace of rad construction.
Well, participating in an investors’ meet held in Kochi on Saturday to formulate plans for Rs.1,000 crore worth road development projects with private participation, the officials stressed the need for funds to maintain M.C. Road that was developed with World Bank assistance.
I read some where that the World Bank representatives have said that the state government should speed up road development works and ensure timely and adequate funds for the same, This seems like a serious warning to me.
