Steps to be prepared to take care of water problems in summer
Q: Hello, the summer is almost here and it causes a lot of water problems in Mysore. What are tehs steps being taken to avoid it from reaching the heights?
But I think this can be maintained if the people really co operate with the authority. I mean people have a tendency to waster water for no reason. SO it they do not do that. Then things will be great.
Hello the chairman of VVWW has said that The situation even during the peak of summer will not be perturbing if our pumping stations are free from power outages. A few hours of shutdown will halt pumping, resulting in non-supply of water
You know about 750 cusecs was discharged into the canals recently. The level was almost the same on this day the previous year too which was at around 2,274.9 ft. This is again a pretty good sign.
The level around the same time last year was not almost the same. It was somewhere near 105.31 ft. The daily outflow from the dam is being used to meet the drinking water needs of Mysuru and Bengaluru cities.
At the Kabini river dam, the level on last week was around 2,274.94 ft as against the maximum of 2,284 ft. The inflow was 128 cusecs and the outflow 200 cusecs and the levels are actually keeping up so all looks good.
On Tuesday, the water-level at KRS stood at 105.74 ft. as against the maximum of 124.8 ft. The inflow was 278 cusecs and the outflow 465 cusecs which is some positive indication but will it stay that way is the question.
About 60 MLD is pumped from the Kabini and the rest of the 190 MLD from the KRS, according to Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), an arm of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) which keeps in check of the water distribution on behalf of the Mysuru City Corporation.
About 250 MLD (million litres per day) of water is drawn right now from both reservoirs to meet the drinking water needs of the city, which has a population of about 10 lakh approximately which is actually not too much at all.
The officials handling the damn have suggested that they are not predicting a crisis until May, but showers in the next two months are critical to improve the situation, although the circumstances are not worrying. So let's see if it rains.
Thanks to satisfactory storage levels in the reservoirs and if pumping stations are free from power outages, the authorities monitoring water supply promise a crisis-free summer until May. This is some welcome news for the mysore residents as they have been tired of the water problems that popo up so often/
This could actually happen, but it depends if the storage levels in the two major water sources which are the Krishnaraja Sagar dam's reservoir and the Kabini dam. If these two places are filled. Then there's no problem.
Looks like all is going Mysore's way as supposedly this summer the city might not relaly have any problems like it used to in the past and the MCC and the water board will look ino that. Will it? I don't know.
