Q: Hello, The government supposedly increased the power tariff in the city and the state. What is the increase that we have been seeing. Do you have any idea?
The TSERC chairman and members said the state government agreed to provide a subsidy of Rs 4,227 crore for agriculture consumers and an additional subsidy of another Rs 30 crore for poultry farms.
He said the slab from 401 to 500 units and above 500 units was merged into a single slab of above 400 units per month. This would help consumers utilizing more than 500 units to some extent.
However, the commission agreed to a total hike of Rs 816 crore only during themeeting. They did that only for those consumers that are utilizing more than 200 units per month. Don't know how the people will react to this.
The chairman said the discoms Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) and Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) had sought Rs 1,089 crore additional revenue by effecting a hike in tariff starting from consumers using more than 100 units a month.
You know what, the commission has already approved the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Rs 23,416 crore for both of the discoms of Telangana which means the rate hike will definitely happen.

TSERC chairman Ismail Ali Khan and members H Srinivasulu and L Manohar Reddy told reporters that there was no tariff hike for domestic consumers utilizing power up to 200 units per month.
This category comprises about 80 lakh of the total 88 lakh domestic consumers in the state. Similarly, there would be no increase in tariff for agriculture and cottage industries and small non-domestic consumers, who utilize up to 50 units a month.
Similarly for 251-300 units, the consumers will have to pay Rs 7.30 per unit against the existing tariff of Rs 6.88 per unit. When it comes to industries, for those under LT-III category, the tariff has been increased to Rs 6.40 per unit from Rs 6.08 per unit.
While the average increase in tariff is 4.42% for all consumers, the increase for domestic category is 1.3%. Consumers who use more than 200 units will have to pay Rs 6.80 per unit instead of Rs 6.38 for 201-250 units slab.
The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) announced on Friday that a moderate increase in power tariff for both domestic and industrial sectors will be put into action from the April of this year, which is next month.
Yes. The government has come up with a plan that would make the residents of the state of telangana pay up more for power charges. I think the ople will have a tough time to get through this.
