I feel it is quite unfair as the property owner is already paying property tax for the built up area and maintenance charges. Why do we have to pay more unnecessary?

According to sources it was found that the flat owners are paying property tax only for the actual usable area and not for the common areas. Before fixing the charges, BBMP will study how the tax on common areas is being charged in other metropolitan cities.

Yeah even I have heard that the owner of common areas includes lobby, lifts, pool, gym, garden, parking space, playground and other such facilities have to bear the cost whether it is an individual or an apartment association.

When they are planning to impose the tax for common areas? Are they going to conduct any kind of survey?

Once they decide over the rates, BBMP will conduct a detailed survey across the City to measure all the apartments and commercial complexes. The levy will be imposed only after a year or two.
