The Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Canada-based Fairfax Financial Holdings and Bengaluru-based Quess Corp, to set up a Paediatric Centre at its new campus in Ranipet.

According to a press release, the two companies have pledged ₹300 crore to set up a CMC Vellore Paediatric Specialty Centre. The centre will have 350 beds in its initial phase, covering a range of medical and surgical paediatric services. The new centre will be located in the Fairfax-Quess block on the CMC campus in Ranipet. Apart from treatment, the centre will also focus on training and research. “We believe that the paediatric specialisation is the next priority for our country,” said J. V. Peter, Director, CMC, Vellore.

The proposed line will cover 8 taluks in 5 districts, 4 in TN and 1 in AP. In TN, VM, TNM, VLR and TRL taluks, CTO in A.P.

Out of this 4 Taluks namely Vandavasi, Cheyyar, Arcot and Pallipattu are getting railway network for the first time.

The proposed line follows the bus route in TMV-Vandavasi section, takes a different route to reach Cheyyar mainly to connect Mambakkam, follows bus route to reach Arani, Arcot, RPT, WJR, SHU Town, R.K.Pet, Attimanjeri, Pallipattu. From Pallipattu it takes a great deviation to reach Nagari, mainly to give connectivity to Podatturpet.

Here the line from Sholinghur(TN) touches R.K.Pet(AP) only to come back again to touch TN(Pallipattu) takes a great deviation to touch Podatturpet and goes to AP again(Nagari)

It should be noted that there is a direct bus route from Cheyyar to Arcot via Kalavai (where the Adishtanam of 65th and 66th Peetadipatis of Shankara Mutt, Kanchi is located). But train goes from Cheyyar to Arani and then to Arco

R. Ramanathan, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction, Southern Railway, said that the new rail route, which involves a distance of 180 km, would pass through Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore and Thiruvallur districts in Tamil Nadu and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. It would cross Cheyyar and Palar rivers. The new route would link the Tindivanam station with the Nagari, and 22 new stations would be established in the route.
