I heard that under this policy the central government will pay Rs 1.5 lakh per house and the state government will pay Rs 1 lakh per house. This scheme will be executed through private developers using land as a resource. Is it true friends?
If i am not wrong, they will have to speed up slum rehabilitation scheme for this purpose and some changes will be made in rules to suite this purpose.
@Mansoor, Yes, it is true and slums that have come up before January 1st, 2000 are eligible for free houses while those living in slum dwellings after that date will get affordable houses but they will be charged as per the scheme.
Right Supratim, A plan of action will be made to make sure that the implementation of this policy by the different housing agencies like MHADA, CIDCO, depending on the jurisdiction.
The policy will have self-certification that the beneficiary does not own a house anywhere in the country. If the declaration provided by the beneficiary is proved false, there is also provision for punishment. Under this policy the government would give subsidy on the home loan interest.
@supratim, About 350 acres of land will be made available by the Mumbai Port Trust and the Ministry of Defence has also expressed its willingness to give up land for the affordable housing project.
Hi, Maharashtra is nearly 50% urbanized and the state's urban needs are different compared to that of the rest of the country. The cities that have been shortlisted have more than 22 lakh slums and the government will need to construct so many more houses to meet the target.
