Yes, center is positive about the development of salt pan land. Though there are some issues related to coastal regulation zone but they will touch the CRZ-I grade area.
Hi Victor, It is not as simple as the minister makes it out to be. It will take at least 3 yrs to acquire land. Secondly, this is unsustainable development that is destructive for Mumbai. It seems to me that the government didn't learn any lessons from the Chennai floods or the 2005 flooding of Mumbai. Salt pans, which are capable of absorbing rain and water, should not be constructed upon.
You are absolutely right. This will only benefit builders and politicians. Why can not the government plan affordable housing in the interiors of Mumbai where CRZ violations are not a concern.
State has made necessary correspondence and is following up the matter with the Centre which owns the land. The government has appointed the principal secretary of revenue department as coordinator to deal with salt pan-related issues with other departments and the Union government.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will make a draft plan for suitable development of the available salt pans. But on the other hand, a move which has left citizens shocked as they say it will trigger floods.
