No additional payment for redevelopment of buildings on Mumbai mill lands
Q: No additional payment will be charged on fungible floor space index that is used for the redevelopment of chawls and residential buildings on mill lands.
Yes, and this time they will get larger homes. Earlier it was decided to give them 300 sq-ft. tenements. Now, they will get an additional 100 sq-ft. on account of the fungible FSI.
That is why, the state urban development department issued the notification last week asking objections/suggestions to modify Development Control Regulations to allow the fungible fsi without charging premium.
Till now, the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority has provided 6923 tenements, 225 sq-ft at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh. Another 2634 tenements are under construction.
The decision will benefit 6000 families that reside in these chawls and buildings on 17 mill lands across the city. These served as quarters when the mills were operational.
@David, I also heard that the families were allowed to stay on the mills during closed down. These families will get these homes free of cost as they have living in these quarters.
