@Pradyuman, It is true. As per the members of 15 organizations that represent the residents, shop owners, stall-owners and slum dwellers on BDD Chawl land, ror the last 30 years, they have been seeking government approval to do the redevelopment on their own.
@Bablu, But the member are upset with the State Govt's decision. On the other hand, they were assured by ministers from BJP_Shiv Sena Govt.that they would be consulted before any decision is taken, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that the govt. will invite global tenders for the redevelopment.
But the members of the various organizations said that they would not allow MHADA to carry out the redevelopment. They are saying that while agreement is require from slumdwellers, the government does not feel the need to do the same for them.
Earlier, it was assured the residents of Mumbai's BDD Chawls that they would get over 500 sq-ft.houses but now, the state govt. may finally settle for 350-400 sq-ft. size flats. But residents of the chawls are not ready with the judgement and they want to redevelop their own.
Hi Abhishek, But it is come to know that Maharashtra Govt has appointed the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority as the nodal agency for implementing redevelopment of the chawls at Worli, Naigaum and NM Joshi Marg in central Mumbai. The Sewri BDD chawls are to be re developed by the Mumbai Port Trust as these are on MBPT land.
