Rajarhat is situated under North 24 Parganas district in Kolkata. It was earlier known as New Town which got its current name on October 7, 2010. The locality is turning into one of the major IT hubs and many industrialists have invested in the development of the township.
Rajarhat is located on the north eastern part of the city. It consists of two localities in it, i.e, Rajarhat and Gopalpur. The main development of the township started in the late 1990s when the Chief Minister of West Bengal was Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. As per reports, the township will be developed till south of the state touching the Sunderbans near the Bay of Bengal.
It comes under the Parliamentary constituency of Dum Dum, Barasat and Assembly constituency of Rajarhat Gopalpur, Rajarhat New Town. According to 2001 population census, the total population was 271,781 with males constituting to 52% and females to 48%.
Some of the health centers in close vicinity are Tata Cancer Center, Uma Medical related Institute, Zoom healthcare and Charnock City.
