4. Renovating an old house comes with some challenges but nothing else can beat its charm. This old house in Cochin was more than 75 years old and had the limitations of space and strength. The old house had two stories with only one room on the first floor. Architects rearranged the rooms to make the spaces more usable, while retaining the old charm of every nook and corner. Two bedrooms on the ground floor was converted to living room and kitchen, while the large old kitchen was converted into the master bedroom. One more bedroom, family living and attic was added to the first floor. Terracota tiles were used for the flooring to keep the rustic charm. Low compound walls ensure the beauty of the house is fully visible from outside.
5. This single-storied, three bedroom house was completed for just Rs 20 lakh. 1450 square feet construction was done using old wood, roof tiles from ancestral house, aluminum fabrication for kitchen cabinets, GI truss roofing etc. to keep cost under control.
