BBMP Commissioner has set a deadline of one more month for his officials to track property tax defaulter across the city and recover dues of Rs 1,000 crores. The Palike may update their records by reference to the parties concerned during the collection of taxes for 2013-14, since the next year’s tax is due in less than 30 days’ time. The tax defaulters list continues with scores of other of other bureaucrats.
A five-star hotel in the central business district has undervalued the extent of its property and paid Rs 26 lakh as against the actual Rs 87 lakh. A tech park that houses more than 12,000 people has declared its total area as 11 lakh sq ft, whereas it is spread across 27 lakh sq ft of area. It seems BBMP has given them 15 days time to pay dues of Rs 60 crore.
Many Bangalore residents are not paying property tax according to law. Property tax defaulters claimed their four-stored houses as two-storyed in the self assessment scheme will have to face problem now. The Palike is going to verify the tax paid by defaulters through random check.
The property tax defaulters’ list include the names of several top politicians and officials. From bureaucrats to politicians and businessmen to film actors, the Palike list for 2008-2012 has it all.
All the property defaulters have to be careful as as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has drawn up a list of those who are yet to pay their taxes. Pallike Commissioner said that they have identified around 3.25 lakh defaulters owe the civic body a total of Rs 786 crore.
