SBI has reduced the processing fee on home loan by 50 per cent which will be avail within 31 December 2012. According to an SBI official this reduction will result in a Rs 5,000 crore growth in home loan portfolio by December end.
The major part of this growth was due to SBI’s controversial ‘teaser loans’ scheme, launched in February 2009. The home loan portfolio implies the opening balances of loan disbursed after the deduction of the repaid loan.
The bank will target Tier II and Tier II cities for their growth. It is said that the bank will also increase the number of retail assets central processing centers.
