The SWR suggested an alternate alignment as to have a bridge across all ten platforms of the station and would end at the extreme end of the Mysore platform. Each platform would also have a landing that would cost lesser and was simpler. The alignment was estimated to cost about 3-4 crore.
According to Divisional Railway Manager of the South Western Railway, the plan was to have a skywalk parallel to the platforms and connecting to the existing foot over bridge. But it would require the demolition and re-construction of five important offices located in railway land. They have asked BMRCL to pay 1.8 crore for shifting of the offices and the bridge itself would cost around 7-8 crore.
I heard that similar plan is happening at the city Railway station where the platforms at the stations will be connected with the Metro station. However the plan is on halt because neither BMRCL nor the Bangalore division of the South Western Railway agreeing on the design and cost.
The Majestic area with the BMTC, the KSRTC as well as the railway station is an important area of interchange between various modes of transport. The area will see Namma metro intersecting once the metro work gets completed. BMRCL has already started with the construction work on the KSRTC land to provide essential connectivity and easy access to passengers wanting to switch from Metro to the buses or vice versa.
The civic body is planning to interconnect Namma Metro with the City Railway Station, however the plan is stuck as both BMRCL and SWR are not agreeing on the cost of the project and the design for which the metro work may stop.
