BBMP continues to dump garbage in Mandur

Q: What is the final status? Will BBMP continue to dump garbage in Mandur or they are thinking of some alternatives?

With the community staying around the Mandur landfill agreeing to allow the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to continue dumping of garbage, in return of which they will get water. According to report, the BBMP released Rs 1 crore for providing drinking water facilities and improved road infrastructure in Bidarahalli and Mandur gram panchayat limits.

Member of the Supreme Court appointed committee says that waste- to- energy and industrial solution projects are not applicable. Environmentally, they are risky as they release fly ash. The best way to handle urban waste is recycling and composting through segregation at sources. Member of the Supreme Court appointed committee also said that Indian urban waste is not feasible for such projects, either by quality or quantity.

The Budget 2013 does not hold any hope for Bangalore which has been reeling under garbage crisis. Moreover, the two big landfills at Mandur and Mavallipura area a great failure.
