One of the ruling parties had to bear the heat due to its failure of managing the garbage menace in the city. A higher official said that, among the total of 89 packages, tenders for 76 have been finalised while 13 are still pending. Five packages for South Bangalore and eight for West Bangalore. The cabinet has given a green signal to call the tenders for those 13 packages.
BBMP commissioner also said that the zonal commissioners can cancel their licences, if the garbage contractors do not work. BVG India Ltd has successfully bagged 50 packages but after the high court intervened, it has withdrawn 30 packages. Out of 20 wards, they have started work in few wards of South zones, Yelahanka and Rajarajeshwarinagar. As the Assembly polls are approaching, the State cabinet gave its approval to invite tenders for 13 garbage for solid waste management in South Bangalore and West Bangalore.
If sources are to be believed then garbage has not been cleaned in many wards across the city for a long time. Replying to their queries, BBMP Commissioner has directed zonal commissioners to put penalties on the garbage contractors if they fail to keep up their promises.
BVG India Ltd has neither supplied materials nor given salary to the pourakamikas, as they had mentioned in the contract agreement, for which pourakarmikas are not doing the cleaning work in Vidyaranyapura ward.
BBMP commissioner ordered BBMP officials to cancel the licences of garbage contractors if they do not start off with the work. The Councillor of Vidyaranyapura ward said that BVG India Ltd has taken the garbage contract four months ago but still it has not started with the work.
