The phase-II would be completed by 2017. The second phase would be executed with both the budgetary support from the central and state governments along with external borrowing from the Japanese government.
The latest news is that the Karnataka government is expected to spend around Rs 2,000 crore through Karnataka Industrial Areas Development (KIADB) to acquire land for implementing Phase II of the Bangalore Metro Rail.
Once the Namma Metro is done, they will provide connectivity from Majestic to Whitefield in the East, Kengeri in the West, BIEC along Tumkur Road in the North and Anjanapura Township in the South. Also two new lanes are expected from Jayanagar to Electronic City and Nagavara to Gottigere under Phase II.
Sources say that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has written to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to issue preliminary notification for the acquisition of land necessary for the construction of the corridors.
Namma Metro Phase II includes four extension lines and two new lines will be implemented with a total length of 72 km at an estimated cost of Rs 26, 405 crore. The BMRCL has identified a total of 941 both private and public properties along the alignment of the project corridors under Phase II.
KIADB is not able to do anything as no fresh tenders can be floated with the code of conduct in place. According to sources, BMRCL have already written to the Election Commissioner in this regard and are waiting for the response.
