It is mandatory that the builder should obtain Occupancy Certificate from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike. Only after issuing the certificate, an owner or builder can granted permission to occupy the building. The certificate is issued under the provisions of by-law 5.6 of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike Building By-Laws 2003.

The occupancy certificate is obtained at the end of the construction. Once the builder applies for the certificate an inspection is done to check if the construction has happened according to the sanctioned plan.
