The growing number of illegal constructions has already taken its toll on the hill environment famed for pleasant weather and as even water bodies are in serious threat, environment officials of Dindigul district have swung into action.

Yes, even I heard that neither the district administration nor the municipal body is taking a serious look into the issue. With the pressure the district collector has constituted a 14-member committee to review illegal constructions.

There are lot of problems in illegal buildings as Illegal constructions do not even have septic tanks and they directly discharge waste into water streams which join rivers.

Hey heard that So more than 640 hotels and lodges in Kodaikanal have been declared as illegal by the Kodaikanal municipality. Environmentalists blame lethargy of officials in closing down buildings raised after violating civic norms and thus further encouraging the building of more illicit structures.
Vivek Kulkarni

Also the existing illegal hotels and lodges would add 800 more rooms by May 2014. Environmentalists have no faith in the civic body which they allege is in the habit of serving multiple notices to illegal commercial buildings without any effective outcome.
