Cleaning the drains and canals is not the only solution for solving the water-logging problem in Kochi. The corporation must find a scientific approach as some parts of Kochi are below sea level. In some localities interlocking bricks have been used to stop roads to become water-logged. In February, the deputy mayor had said that Rs. 5 crore would be allocated for cleaning drains and canals. I don't know when this will actually happen.

It is only getting bad to worse in Kochi with regard to the water-logging situation. Low-lying localities in the city are completely water-logged. The corporation had promised to clean the canals and sewage drains before the rains came, but they haven't done so. In 2013, the corporation had spent Rs. 5 crores to clean the drains, but it seems like it is money down the drain. Each division of the city was allocated Rs. 2.5 lakhs for drain cleaning, but the money has not been utilised as contractors are still estimating the cost it would take to clean the drains

Yes, the water-logging hasn't reduced at all. The recent rains has made living in Kochi miserable. Many of the low-lying areas of Kochi have water-logged roads which is making life tough for two wheeler riders and pedestrians. Localities in Kochi such as Chakkalappadam, Mattancherry, Kaloor, North Paramara Road, Fort Kochi, Azad Road, and north and south Ernakulam face constant water-logging issues. A few days of rain, and most parts of the city has knee-deep water. There is a huge water-logging issue in Kochi, because of the blocked drains and canals in the city
